Moving the PD Day in March 2015

    Dear SSIS Parents –

Each school year is 180 teaching days long, divided as evenly as possible between first and second semester, while allowing for the major holiday breaks.

Teachers and teacher leaders, though, have at least 190 contact days each year, the additional ten days in the form of professional development at the start, and throughout, the year.

While we attempt to plan our calendar more than one year in advance, we need to make a change to this year’s calendar and are writing you now in case you would like to make family plans around the change.

We previous scheduled a faculty professional development day for Friday, 27 March 2015. That has now been changed to Monday, 30 March 2015. The change was made necessary by the content planned for our professional development day and a conflict with teachers attending the EARCOS conference the previous week.

An updated calendar has been posted to the website and the changes are already reflected on our online calendars. If you are subscribing to our calendars, the information has already been pushed to you.

    For your planning, then:

Friday, 27 March 2015 – is now a regular school day; students attend classes

Monday, 30 March 2015 – the students have the day off from school (rather than being off the previous Friday); no classes will be held on campus; teachers will report to school for professional development

Thank you all, in advance, for your understanding and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

Mark Iver Sylte, Head of School
