The Global Codeathon is an international coding conference organized by UNIS Hanoi that virtually connects young coders from International Schools all over the world.

This is a great opportunity for students from Grades 4 and 5 to learn about coding on Scratch, create their own projects and be mentored by professional coders.

The event will take place on May 9th at the ES Library from 2:00PM to 5:30PM and we will be joined by a contingent of students from the American International School and Australian International School of Ho Chi Minh City.

The origins of the Global Codeathon began with a conversation among International Schools on how to get kids excited about coding and sharing that excitement with others. From our experience this year running the SSIS Hour of Code, and making our first steps introducing coding into the Upper Elementary School, we have seen how empowering it is to share one’s passion. Some of our least academically motivated students excel as they are not only teaching other students but administrators too. We want this opportunity to last more than an hour and also want to celebrate our coders’ achievements.

In this event, the students will:

  • Learn how coding works
  • Create their own games and projects
  • Improve your coding skills
  • Compete to be the 2014 Global Codeathon Champion
  • Meet awesome coders from around the world

The keynote speaker for this year’s event is Dong Nguyen from .GEARS (dotGears) studios, the famous Vietnam-based developer and programmer who is best known for creating the popular mobile game Flappy Bird.

We would like to invite teachers and parents to join us this Saturday in this celebration of coding and technology. For more information, go to the Global Codeathon Website: http://globalcodeathon.org/
