Here’s a glimpse of what I saw as I walked through every class this morning. Working collaboratively in math Writing explanations of thinking in Geometry Using digital and paper tools at the same time Learning the skill of uncovering important information in text with highlighting in Grade 6 Practicing highlighting skills in Grade 6 Working together to answer questions that require critical thinking Using evidence to support answers to critical thinking questions in Grade 8 Analyzing maps and graphs to determine meaning Analyzing primary source documents to support analytical thinking Responding individually to those critical thinking questions (ensuring all students can articulate their understanding of work completed collaboratively) Demonstrating the skill of uncovering important information in text using highlighting in Grade 8 (transferring skills learned in Grade 6) Exploring digital manipulation of student art work Using Today’s Meet (an online microblogging site) to share understanding of content and to post questions that remain Today’s Meet screen view Analyzing the key components of data graphs and charts; evaluating examples to solidify learning and using a strategy that requires students to explain their thinking Using movement and sharing prompts to have students think critically about data charts and graphs in science 4 Corners – an activity that requires students to take a position and articulate their viewpoint/thinking Small team competitions that get students to work out their thinking in front of their peers in a supportive manner (and is just plain fun for middle school students) Working on hand/eye coordination and focus in the PE juggling unit
