Dear Parents,

Now that we have completed Orientation Day and the first days of school, it is time to formally launch our curriculum.  This year’s Curriculum Night is scheduled for Thursday, August 18, 2016.  All parents & guardians are requested to please attend; please have your children stay at home for this adult-oriented event.

The agenda will include:

  • Curriculum Developments: Changes for this school year
    • What SuperUnits will your child have this year?
    • What are the SuperUnit themes?
    • What Approaches to Thinking will my child study this year?
    • What is new in the subject areas? Curricular updates for Math and Health
    • What is new for specialist subjects? Integration, update on staff
    • How do instructional coaches work with my child?
  • Understanding your child’s curriculum this year
    • The learning environment: How we approach learning at SSIS
    • The written curriculum: Overview of the two SuperUnits and other components of the curriculum
    • The taught curriculum: Main strategies used throughout the year
    • The assessed curriculum: What to expect from assessments
    • How to support your child at home: Homework, projects, and enrichment
    • Parent engagement: Volunteering, communication, and special events throughout the year
