ES: Principal Coffee Workshop: How to help your child become an innovator (Thursday, October 6, 08:15 – 09:30)

90

Dear Parents,

The next Principal Coffee Workshop will be on Thursday, October 6th, 2016 from 8:15 – 9:30 in the Elementary MakerSpace.  Our guest presenter will be our Instructional Coach for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Kattina Rabdau-Fox.  The topic will be:

Learning or just playing around?
How to help your child become an innovator through making at home and at school.

Our MakerSpace is a place where students learn about the world through  designing, engineering, taking apart, and working together. Making has three critical components: looking closely, exploring complexity, and finding opportunity. Our MakerSpace is driven by curiosity, excitement, and freedom to explore. When kids have the tools to understand and empathize with a problem, they can generate awareness of the strengths and limitations of design.  Awareness then compels students to think about and build innovative solutions to problems. At this talk, we will examine how SSIS is generating a maker centered culture of design and engineering through our formal curriculum and the role of MakerSpace in informal learning.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Sincerely,

Daniel J. Keller, PhD
Elementary School Principal
