Dear SSIS community,
On Sunday, November 27th, the 20th annual HCMC Terry Fox Run will take place in PMH. The run begins at 8AM on Tan Trao Street (in front of Petroland Tower). Registration and t-shirt sales will take place next week before and after school in the plaza. In keeping with Terry Fox’s dream, there is no required/minimum donation to participate in the run. Simply donate as you wish. Terry Fox Run t-shirts ranging in size from 3XS – 3XL are available for 250,000 vnd each ((SSIS team shirt)). Many sizes run out, so be sure to buy your shirt early.
SSIS has long been a strong supporter of the HCMC Terry Fox Run as participants, volunteers and in the funds we raise for cancer research.
The HCMC Terry Fox Run has quickly become one of the biggest Terry Fox Runs outside of Canada. All money raised by the HCMC Terry Fox Run stays in VN; so far, the money raised has paid for a new wing in the oncology hospital, purchased new/up-to-date equipment needed for cancer treatment and offered further training to doctors. It really is phenomenal to see the difference that the funds raised have made for thousands of people in Vietnam. Last year, the TFR attracted more than 16,500 participants and raised over 1.353 billion VND for cancer research in Vietnam.
In 2015, the Terry Fox Run organisers launched a 2 year project with the Terry Fox Foundation Project in Vietnam: Early Diagnosis of Oral Cancer in Vietnam. Oral cancer is among the most common cancers in Vietnam. This project will be overseen by the Ho Chi Minh Oncology Hospital with connection to community health clinics by the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, HCMC and screening team led and overseen by the Faculty of Dentistry and in collaboration with the University of British Columbia (UBC).
Vietnam was recognised by the Terry Fox Foundation, for this 2.5 billion VND research project as a result of the outstanding success of the Terry Fox Run in HCMC.
