Dear SSIS School Community:
It is with mixture of regret and heartfelt appreciation that the Board announces that Mr. Mark Sylte has notified the Board of his decision to step down as Head of School in July 2018, at the end of the next school year. In the coming year, Mr. Sylte will continue to lead his team in the important work to be done at SSIS.
The Board is grateful for having the opportunity to work with Mr. Sylte, and on behalf of the SSIS Board and the Phu My Hung Corporation, a sincere thank you to Mr. Sylte for his many contributions to our School and community. Mr. Sylte’s dedicated service to the School and its mission, his compassion and care for his colleagues and his students, and his infectious enthusiasm and love of learning, have made our School stronger, and our community better.
Mr. Sylte arrived at SSIS in 2012, after School had experienced several turbulent years. During his tenure, Mr. Sylte has worked diligently to build a strong climate of trust and collegiality within the Administration and Faculty, and together with his dedicated team, he has strengthened and expanded the academic programs, increased extracurricular program offerings, strengthened the University Guidance Office, built and maintained excellent facilities, maintained the School’s WASC accreditation and IB program status, and ensured our students are nurtured in a supportive and safe learning environment.
As we look to the busy 2017-8 school year ahead, Mr. Sylte will continue to work together with his Administration and Faculty on implementing the initiatives put forth in the recent Strategic Plan. The Board looks forward to working with Mr. Sylte, and again, extends a heartfelt thank you to him for his dedication and commitment to SSIS and the community.
The Board at SSIS has already begun working on the Head of School search for the 2018/19 school year. More details on the search process will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.
Sincerely,
Gayle Tsien, Board Chair, on behalf of the SSIS Board
