Road Construction Update

    61

    Dear SSIS Parents –

There were times this summer, when our campus was under construction, when I feared we might not be ready by opening day. The hard work of our Associate Head of School for Finance and Operations, Ms. Wai Mun Fong, and her teams in facilities, maintenance, and cleaning, as well as our outside contractors, once again performed miracles and we opened with great new spaces for our students and parents.

What we didn’t expect, however, was road construction outside our gates the first weeks of school. We love our Phu My Hung neighborhood and the work of our parent corporation to sustain the quality of life we enjoy here, and we understand that, from time to time, this means some minor disruptions. We appreciate your patience and want to give you an update on the work going on.

The first phase has been the elevation of the roadbed and sidewalkson the south side of the street (closest to the SSIS fence line) to provide better drainage during heavy rain. This resurfacing should be completed by 25 August 2017. During this time, work will be suspended from 06:30 – 08:00 in the morning and 14:30-16:50 in the afternoon to allow for heavier traffic during drop off and pick up times at SSIS and our sister school, the Lawrence S. Ting School (LSTS), next door.

Once construction is finished on the south side, lanes will be opened and work will begin on the north side (the side farthest away from the SSIS campus). This work should be completed by 05 September 2017, at which time traffic should return to normal.

We thank you all for your patience during this time, and your cooperation with the new traffic patterns we have established on campus.

    Sincerely yours,

    Mark Sylte, Head of School
