How do we help our students as they join the age of social media? By teaching them in a safe space how to be good digital communicators. David Rynne, MS Instructional Coach for Technology, and Erin Johnson, Gr 6 English Language Arts and Digital Literacy teacher, have teamed up to do just this. Welcome to fakebook!
With a look and feel similar to Facebook and other social media sites, our Gr 6 students are learning how to communicate in the digital age without the added pressure (and fears) of making communication errors in a public community. We will be monitoring their use and talking about their contributions. We are also actually hoping that we see them make some mistakes so that we have the opportunity to talk about what went wrong and how to avoid those types of mistakes in the future.
