Coding, engineering and design in Elementary: A Parent’s Guide

ES Principal’s Coffee Thursday, April 5th 8:15 – 9:30

Host and Facilitator: Daniel J. Keller, PhD, Elementary School Principal

Guest Speaker: Alfredo Papaseit, Instructional Coach for Technology

Venue: B-310, Elementary Flex Room

There is no denying that software has become critical in all our lives. To be literate today we must understand the language of computers. Unfortunately, in many schools our younger students are not exposed to software programming. During this session, we will explore a variety of tools used at our school to teach programming, engineering, and design to younger children. Parents will walk away with a better understanding on how children at SSIS design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in math, science and engineering. We will reflect on how computer languages provide an open canvas for creativity that can empower students to bridge the gap between the physical and the digital world.
