G9 WWW – CANCELLED

380

Dear Grade 9 Families,

Many of you have been following the news concerning Typhoon Mangkhut that is headed towards the Philippines.  According to current predictions, Northern Vietnam may end up being in the path later next week during the Week Without Walls in Mai Chau. As school practice when facing uncertain travel conditions, we contacted our school’s safety consultant SOS International (a highly regarded global safety consultant).  Although, they cannot predict exactly what will happen when the typhoon reaches landfall, they recognize that the heavy winds and rain in the rural part of Vietnam could result in landslides and flooding aIong the route to Mai Chau. As a result of this assessment, we have decided to cancel the grade 9 Week Without Walls trip to northern Vietnam.  The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority.

We are adjusting our plans for our grade 9 students for next week.  They will attend their regularly scheduled classes on Monday through Wednesday (September 17-19) with the rest of the grade 11 and 12 students in the High School.  In addition, on Thursday and Friday, September 20 and 21, we will plan team building and engaging activities for grade 9 students which will take place on or off campus in the local area.

We appreciate your support as we prioritize the safety of our community. Please contact me (hsprincipal@ssis.edu.vn) if you have any questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Jacob Hendrickson
SSIS High School Principal
