MS: PE Dance … What a Celebration!

605

With over 230 dancers, middle school students knocked the socks off a sold out auditorium full of parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, friends, relatives, and teachers.  This amazing celebration of movement was led by middle school PE teachers Dawne Kaba, Rick Freil, Kevin Hale, and Sanny Tran.  Supported by Mr. Thanh, Andy Apgar and high school student assistants, the night went off without a hitch.  We also want to thank the PTA for their continued support of the event with funding of costumes and props.

6th grade students performed a very intricate Vietnamese dance taught to them by Ms. Thao, an incredible dance instructor from Asia Music and Performing Arts (AMPA).

Grade 7 students were saucy in their salsa routines.  Starting with a routine that was taught to them, the students then moved into self choreographed short salsa routines.  Groups were able to select their music and put together their moves with support from their AMPA instructor, Mhynerd.

Grade 8 students take the independence up to full scale where they are responsible for selection of music and full choreography of their decade inspired dances.  Starting in the 1950s and moving to the 2000s, our grade 8 students really showed their musicality, creativity, and willingness to try new things.  Grade 8 was also supported by Dance Instructor Mhynerd from AMPA.

Did you miss the performance? Or didn’t get the video you wanted?  We will be posting the full performance once it is ready.  For a quick view of performance highlights, you can check out this video produced by SSIS’s own Jeff Nesmith.

We are already looking forward to next year’s performance!
