    522

    Dear SSIS Parents,

As many of you may know, MS Principal Molly Burger will be moving on from SSIS in June, at the end of this school year. We are very grateful to Mrs. Burger for her work and dedication to establishing an exemplary middle school, and I am pleased to announce that we have determined our next Middle School Principal, Mr. Daniel Kerr, who will join us in July.

Mr. Kerr is currently the Lower School Principal at the American School of Paris. Well-respected by parents, students, and peers, Mr. Kerr, a thought leader in international education, brings over 20 years of experience in this field.

Many qualities make Mr. Kerr the perfect fit for this exciting time in our school’s history. He has previously served as a Middle School Principal at Shanghai Community International School in Shanghai, China, as Intermediate Division Director at Academia Cotopaxi American International School in Quito, Ecuador, and Teacher Leader at Jakarta Intercultural School in Jakarta, Indonesia.

“Middle School gives me so much joy… That age group, 12 – 14 or 15, is arguably the time of life when you change the most. And you can effect unbelievable change in a child’s life at that time. I can’t wait to engage in that with you,” Mr. Kerr shared via Zoom when he was introduced to our middle school faculty.

Daniel Kerr will join SSIS beginning school year 2023-2024

Mr. Kerr’s passionate dedication to student learning and growth is sure to be an incredible advantage for our students’ learning during this crucial time in their lives. In addition to his extensive experience in international education and leadership, Mr. Kerr serves as an adjunct professor at Endicott College. He is equally passionate about nurturing teachers’ growth and collaborations across grade levels and subjects.

Having had the good fortune of meeting him face-to-face during our winter break, I can attest that Mr. Kerr will bring experience, knowledge, energy, and joy to our middle school and our community. His smile is infectious, and his genuine care for young people is obvious in every action and word. And I believe that parents will feel his authentic passion for nurturing middle school students the minute they meet him.

Mr. Kerr will be joined by his wife, Jocelyn, who will assume the second middle school counselor position at SSIS next year. They have two children, Gabby, entering grade 10 at SSIS, and Max, a college freshman.

From May 3 to 8, 2023, Mr. Kerr will be visiting our campus. Middle school and grade 5 parents and students will have an opportunity to meet him at that time. Further details will be shared later. I am sure you will help to make him and his family feel welcome in our community. We look forward to welcoming them to SSIS.

    All good wishes,

    Dr. Catriona Moran
