Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year. The start of a new school year is always filled with excitement. We are eagerly preparing for and awaiting the return of our community of learners.
When you walk on campus, you will notice a number of facility improvements. Some things you will see right away include:
- new security gates and turnstiles
- an outdoor garden
- a remodeled auditorium
- improved entrances to Buildings A and B
- new paint, ceiling tiles, and bathrooms in Building A
- new security cameras in Building A
We are also very excited about the educational improvements that will be noticed throughout the year. These include a continued focus on building writing skills in all courses, exciting advancements in the use of Apple laptops in the learning process, a new timetable that increases time for each course, and the development of new assessment practices designed to improve student learning and communication.
Attached to this letter are some documents that will be helpful as you prepare your child for starting the new school year:
- Important Dates for Start of School: This shows the date, time, event, and notes for events for all grades, as well as events for specific grades.
- New School Year Orientation: This event is on August 11 for all returning and new students and parents.
SSIS holds an orientation day prior to the first day of instruction for ALL new and returning SSIS students. During this orientation period, students and parents will complete required forms, provide a current copy of each student’s passport and visa, obtain school ID cards (as needed), update contact information in PowerSchool, purchase school uniforms and supplies (as needed), put money on SSIS Caterers account, and receive locker assignments and schedules.
Attendance at orientation and registration day is mandatory for all students, new and returning. We would like to have each student accompanied by at least one parent. The Middle School program will run from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Uniforms are optional for students.
