260

The New School Year Orientation was held on Thursday, August 13 (see details of the schedule below)., on the day before the first day of instruction for ALL new and returning SSIS students in grades 6-8.  Due to government directives, parents were unfortunately not permitted on campus.  However, the MS team recorded the following session for parents who may have missed the MS Orientation in efforts to ensure that parents are just as informed as are students.

REMINDER OF HEALTH AND SAFETY MEASURES

  • Mandatory Mask Usage: Everyone on campus must wear a mask at all times except when in the classroom environment. Students will need to bring 2 – 3 masks daily (3 if classes include PE or the student is planning on being physically active during lunch). Both medical masks or washable cloth masks are approved. Students will even need to wear masks during PE.

  • Hygiene Measures: All students must wash their hands or use hand sanitizer immediately upon entering a classroom. Prior to departing any area, students will assist with the disinfection of all shared surfaces. All shared materials will be disinfected as well.  Students may bring their own hand sanitizer or use the school-provided sanitizer.

  • Social Distancing: Students will be seated 1.5m apart, facing the same direction. Everyone must keep 1.5m apart at all times, including in hallways, cafeteria, etc.  We know students will want to hug their friends, but that is still not possible at this time.  We will help them find other ways to share their joy at being back together again.

  • Separate campus entry for middle and high school students: A new entry has been created for middle and high school students.  It is located to the left of the plaza area.  This separate entry allows us to have all students on campus from 8:00-3:00 (i.e. a single start time for all divisions).

SCHOOL SCHEDULE

  • Daily Schedule:  We will return to the 8:00-3:00 daily schedule for all students.  This begins on Friday, August 14, 2020.

  • Advisory and Structured Study Time:  We will have a 40-minute advisory or structured study hall every day. We will be using this time to support students in many ways.

Please call Ms. Hang Vu (028 5413 0901 ext. 12001) in the Middle School Office if you have any questions.
