MS Student-Led Conferences, March 25 & 26 – Registration and Information

159

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Please mark your calendars for the Middle School student-led conferences. Registration opened Monday, March 8, via SchoolsBuddy, and conferences will be held on campus:

  • Thursday, March 25, from 4 – 8 pm
  • Friday, March 26, from 8 am – 1 pm

Why Student-Led Conferences?

Student-led conferences provide an important opportunity for students to lead a conversation with their parents about their learning and next steps. Students talk about their growth and change over the year, identify accomplishments and struggles, and reflect on teacher feedback/comments during the conference.

How Are Student-Led Conferences Different Than Traditional Parent-Teacher Conferences?

Student-led conferences focus on having students take responsibility for discussing their progress and achievements.

Although the conference will include information from your child’s teachers, your child will choose what to present as they reflect on their learning together with you. The dialogue at a student-led conference is between the student and the parent, not the parent and the teacher.

How to Have a Successful Student-Led Conference

As parents join their child at the conference table, they should view their role as partners, as they attempt to see the school through their child’s eyes. It is often helpful to provide positive reinforcement and encouragement while listening to your child’s reflections and assessments.

Progress Report and Grades

Please note that you will receive your child’s mid-semester progress report after the student-led conferences are finished, i.e. Friday, March 26 after 1:00 pm. During the conferences, you view and discuss report card comments, with your child. Please keep in mind that mid-semester grades are grades in progress. They will not show on your child’s transcript.

Attending the conferences will help you understand how to best support your child in making positive adjustments, which will affect their transcript grades at the end of the semester. We urge you to not miss this important opportunity.

100% Attendance Goal

The SSIS Middle School has a 100% attendance goal for student-led conferences. We have met that goal for the past 6 years and are excited to continue this strong connection between student, parent, and school.

Conference Registration in SchoolsBuddy

Registration will be open from 9:00 am on Monday, March 8 until 9:00 am, Friday, March 19. Please use the directions below to sign up for your student–led conference with each of your child’s teachers. Each appointment will last for about 30 minutes.

Scheduling Your Appointments in SchoolsBuddy

To schedule your appointments, you must log in to your SchoolsBuddy account. If you have more than one child in Middle School, please make sure not to schedule the appointments for their student-led conferences at the same time.  Each child’s appointments should be scheduled at different times so that you are able to attend.

Detailed instructions on how to schedule your appointment in SchoolsBuddy can be found here on SSIS Link

If You Do Not Have a SchoolsBuddy Account

If you do not have a SchoolsBuddy account, or if you have forgotten your password, please contact our ICT department (ict@ssis.edu.vn).
