(G6–8) Annual Health Screenings

110

Dear Middle School Parents,

This year we will be conducting Annual Health Screenings for middle school students on Monday, October 3, and Tuesday, October 4.

These screenings are done to assess your child’s growth and identify possible factors that could impact their learning, per government requirements. The middle school nurses will measure each child’s height, weight, BMI (body mass index), vision, blood pressure, and pulse.

Please note that these health screenings are not intended to diagnose any medical conditions. They should not replace your child’s annual physical check-up.

You will receive a complete report of your child’s health screening results within four weeks of their screening date. If you are concerned about any of the findings on the report, please book a consultation with a doctor for further assessment.

The screening of each student will include:

  • BMI screening: Height and weight will be calculated using the CDC – BMI calculator for children and teens.
  • Distance vision screening: Distance vision will be assessed using a standard 10-foot (~ 3-meter) eye chart with letters or symbols. (See examples here).
  • Near vision screening: A 16-inch (~ 40 cm) card will be used to check students’ vision. (See examples here).
  • Color vision: Color vision will be screened with “Color Vision Testing Made Easy” discs. (See examples here).

If have any special requests for your child’s health screening, or if do not wish for your child to take part in this program, please contact me by email at msnurse@ssis.edu.vn or by phone at 028 5413 0901, ext # 11071 before Thursday, September 29.

Sincerely,
