HS: Parent Teacher Conferences (Oct 13 and 14)

47

The end of 1st Quarter is Wednesday, October 5, 2016.  It’s hard to believe that we are already 1/4 through the school year.  This is an important time to check in with your child about their progress so far this year.  The first quarter grade represents all of the student’s work between August and October 5th.  This slice of the grade will represent 40% of the total when we calculate 1st semester grades.  Quarter 2 starts on October 6th with a brand new grade book that will close on December 16th.  The first semester grade that is reported on transcripts to universities after the conclusion of semester 1 on December 16 is calculated the following way:  quarter 1 (40%) + quarter 2 (40%) + semester exams (20%)= first semester grade.  Hence, quarter 1 is a mid semester check-in on student progress.

SSIS is hosting Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday, Oct. 13 (4-8pm) and Friday, Oct. 14 (8am-1pm) for middle and high school parents and students in the Bldg A (middle school) gym.  These conferences give each parent an opportunity to talk directly with teachers about their child’s progress.  Students will have an early dismissal on Thursday and no school on Friday due to these conferences.

The conference style for middle and high school parents and students is an open arena style conference.  This means that no appointments are needed.   We are hoping for 100% attendance on the part of parents.

In planning your time, it will take approximately 1.5 hours per child to speak with all teachers (each child has 8 teachers).  The busiest conference time will be Thursday evening.  If you can attend on Friday, you will experience significantly less wait time.

If you have any questions about conferences, please contact Ms. Thao in the high school office.  We are looking forward to talking with you about your child’s progress so far this year.

Best wishes,

Jacob Hendrickson
