MS/HS Grade 8 and 9 students to take PSAT 8/9 on March 12

583

SSIS administers one external assessment for each grade, 3-12.  In Grade 8, students will take the PSAT 8/9 which provides detailed information about student performance in achieving essential academic standards in reading, writing and math.  PSAT 8/9 also provides the benefit of being in complete alignment with standardized assessments given in Grades 9-11. Grade 9 students take the PSAT 8/9; Grade 10 students take the PSAT 10; Grade 11 students take the PSAT/NMSQT.  Most of our Grade 11 and 12 students also take the SAT as a part of the college admissions process.

We will be administering the PSAT 8/9 on Tuesday, March 12th  from 8:00-11:30. All Grade 8 and Grade 9 students will take the assessment on that day; and no make up sessions are allowed per test administration guidelines.  On the morning of the test, students will report to their first block for attendance and will then proceed to the auditorium. Students who are late will not be able to be seated for the exam.  We do not recommend studying specifically for this assessment. However, we do recommend students get a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast on test day.

PSAT 8/9 results will be sent to students and parents when they are received from College Board.  In additional to this feedback, the PSAT 8/9 provides the following:

  • Free, personalized SAT study on Khan Academy® based on test results
  • AP Potential™ feedback
  • Roadtrip Nation, where students can create their own career roadmaps
  • College Search and Major and Career Search on BigFuture

If you would like to learn more about the PSAT 8/9, please review the College Board website.  We hope that you are as excited about this change as we are.
