Head of School Update, April 15: Summer School – 2 Weeks Free for Current Families

    1127

    Dear SSIS Parents,

In the past few months, our community has dealt with the unexpected challenges brought on as a result of COVID-19. For most, it has meant learning how to adjust to life in confinement and giving up many of the comforts one takes for granted. For some, these unexpected challenges have, unfortunately, impacted businesses or sources of income adversely.

We recognize the hardships that many members of our community are facing, and we want you to know that, as always, we at SSIS remain committed to your child’s academic and social-emotional wellbeing.

That is why, this summer, we will be offering all of our currently enrolled SSIS families two weeks of our Summer School program, free of charge. We know that although our students have exhibited significant advances academically during Virtual School, they will benefit greatly from time spent face-to-face with peers and teachers.

This year, we are delighted to offer an exciting program run mainly by members of our own SSIS faculty. As you will see in the program outline, we have several creative and academically challenging courses at all grade levels (EC4-12) that will present students the opportunity to work independently and together. As we want to ensure that there is room for any SSIS student who wants to attend, we will guarantee spots for all of our students. Thus, our summer school program will only be offered to families outside of SSIS if there are spaces left.

Although we intend to make room for all SSIS students who wish to attend, we hope that the majority of families will enroll before the end of April as it will allow us to plan how many teachers are needed. Summer school registration will close on Wednesday, May 13.

During summer school, we will continue to implement the strict safety and social-distancing measures that have been in place since late January. We are hoping to hold the summer school program on campus. However, we are prepared to run a virtual summer school if the Government restrictions warrant that.

    Summer School Program Details

Dates: One-week sessions will be offered, starting on the following dates: June 15, June 22, June 29 and July 6.

    Eligibility: Students entering EC4 – Grade 12.

Enrollment: Families can choose any of the two weeks during the summer school program as their two school-sponsored weeks. There is no obligation on families to continue summer school for the additional two weeks at personal cost if they do not wish. All SSIS families will be guaranteed spaces for their children.

Fee: We are offering all currently enrolled SSIS families two weeks, free of charge. Additional weeks will be offered at a reduced rate of 50% off. Incoming families will pay the full fee. If there is room, the summer school program will be open to outside families at full tuition.

Lunch: Lunch will be available to purchase. Students may also choose to bring home lunch.

We are very pleased to be able to offer two weeks of the summer school program, free of charge, to our currently enrolled families and we hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity to enrich your child’s learning this summer.

Be together. Learn together. Grow together.

    All best wishes,

    Dr. Catriona Moran
