Important Announcement Regarding School Start, August 10

    Dear SSIS Parents,

I hope this letter finds you and your families safe and healthy. As we all know, the recent weeks have been challenging for Ho Chi Minh City, with large numbers of COVID positive cases being reported each day.

We have been monitoring the developments hourly throughout the summer, working closely with International SOS and local authorities to stay informed and to maintain a deep understanding of the situation.

Considering the current outbreak and the newly heightened restrictions, we have concluded that the school year must start virtually.

    Virtual School Start, August 10

The decision to start the school year virtually on August 10 was not made lightly, and we considered other options, such as delaying the school start. But, that would have negative implications for students, faculty, and staff, now and later in the year.

Also, we recognize the challenges many families are having in lockdown. It’s not always easy. Our students will benefit from returning to school as soon as possible, having a routine, and engaging with their teachers and friends.

Naturally, we all hoped that we would start the school year on campus. However, rest assured that our teachers are committed to delivering an exemplary program for your children, regardless of the platform.

In the next coming weeks, you can expect to receive more details on the virtual school start from your child’s principal.

Earlier today, we offered information sessions via Zoom in English and Vietnamese for parents, presented by International SOS Medical Director Dr. Phi and our Health Office Manager, Lisa Chute. They addressed questions from parents and shared information about the current outbreak and the vaccination program.

Below, you will find the links to the recorded sessions:

In the presentation, Dr. Phi addressed the government vaccine registration options. In case you missed my email on July 23, here are the two ways to register for the COVID vaccine:

We have created this step-by-step guide in English to support those who wish to register now using the Vietnamese language version of the app (the English version is not yet available). And this article provides detailed information in English about the two registration options.

You can expect to receive a considerable amount of communication from the school and your children’s divisions as we lead up to the start of the school year. Within the next few weeks, we will also be holding Virtual School information sessions via Zoom. However, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. This is a challenging time for our whole school community and we are here to support each other.

    All good wishes,

    Dr. Catriona Moran
    Head of School
