August 9: MS Orientation Day (G6 – 8)

202

Dear Middle School Families,

We are excited to welcome you to the new school year! We have an exciting Week of Welcome (WOW) prepared for you.  From parent orientation meetings, student orientation, and the first days of classes, we are ready to kick off the school year with great enthusiasm!

Attendance at Orientation is mandatory for all students, new and returning. We also require that at least one parent attends with each student for middle school. As you will see below, we have additional orientation activities specifically for new SSIS students.

TO DO BEFORE ORIENTATION: Students

  • Log into PowerSchool and know who your advisor is

TO HAVE FOR ORIENTATION: Students

  • Fully charged laptop
  • Pencil/pen and paper
  • Water bottle
  • A healthy body – remember, being well rested is important to your health
  • Uniforms are optional
  • You do not need your ID card for orientation

ON ORIENTATION DAY: Students and Parents

  • You may enter campus from either the MS/HS gate or the ES gate.
  • You will start in the auditorium.  Please note that you may need to wait in the atrium prior to entering the auditorium.  You will see our campus has changed a bit in getting ready for upcoming construction.  You can see the new walkway to the middle school by watching this video. The new walkway will take you right to the atrium and the entrance to the auditorium.

ORIENTATION FOR PARENTS

Please note that orientation will be held on August 9 by grade-level. You can do the following school year preparations at that time, or do them now online:

Reminder of Health and Safety Measures

  • Mandatory Mask Usage: Everyone on campus must wear a mask at all times except when eating, exercising, or performing. Students will need to bring 2 – 3 masks daily (3 if classes include PE or the student is planning on being physically active during lunch). Both medical masks or washable cloth masks are approved.
  • Hygiene Measures: All students must wash their hands or use hand sanitizer immediately upon entering a classroom. Prior to departing any area, students will assist with the disinfection of all shared surfaces. All shared materials will be disinfected as well.  Students may bring their own hand sanitizer or use the school-provided sanitizer.
  • Social Distancing: Social distancing is not required at this time.

Additional details of our health and safety measures will be provided by the SSIS Health Office and can also be found on the Back to School HQ.

Best regards,

Molly Burger
