A Busy First Month

    Dear SSIS Parents,

It is remarkable to think that it’s just been four weeks since the start of school. Your children have most certainly availed themselves of all of the opportunities and are each day engaged in extraordinary high-level learning experiences.

Schoolwide, all three divisions have hosted Curriculum Night, allowing you to learn more about the opportunities we offer at SSIS, the curriculum, assessments, and to meet your children’s teachers. As your children’s success relies greatly on our partnership, we truly appreciated seeing so many of you attend.

On campus, after-school activities, clubs, and sports have begun. Already at 6:15 am you can see our swimmers and cross-country runners start their training. And, at the end of any given day, we have over 400 students actively engaged in after-school activities, clubs, sports, and other programs. And in just two short weeks, we will have the first opportunity in several years to cheer on our Dragon athletes here on campus.

Another first in several years is tomorrow’s PTA Family Fun Day. This Family Fun day is brought to you by our extremely dedicated and hardworking PTA and volunteers from the school. I hope that you and your children will come and celebrate our wonderful community. It’s free for the SSIS community. From 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, there will be food and drinks, a bouncy castle, pony rides (yes, pony rides!), and lots of games and opportunities to make new friends and reconnect with old ones. And don’t forget your raffle tickets –  I’m told there are several amazing prizes. In the Atrium, we will create our “High Five to 25,” a collaborative community artwork celebrating our 25-year anniversary!

And lastly, I’d like to invite you to save the date September 20, when I, along with other SSIS faculty, will be sharing our student achievement data from last year and presenting our Annual Report. As you will hear then, we have many reasons to celebrate, despite what undeniably was an unconventional and challenging year. More details will follow next week.

As you can see, it has indeed been a busy first month! We look forward to continuing to share and celebrate your children’s growth and achievements in what promises to be an amazing year for our SSIS community.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow at Family Fun Day.

    All good wishes,

    Dr. Catriona Moran
