Dear SSIS Parents,
Over the past few weeks, most students in grades 1 – 12 have completed the formative Star Assessment. We know that parents of younger children have had to help by getting their children set up to access the assessment, and I’d like to express my gratitude for your support in this effort.
Like all formative assessments, the Star Assessment is designed to gather information about student progress and potential struggles. It is not an achievement test.
Parent Education: How SSIS Uses Assessments to Improve Your Child’s Learning Experience, Thursday, October 7 (Zoom link in Friday’s Dragon Digest)
Next Thursday, October 7, at 8:15 am I will explain the Star Assessment and the information it provides during our Parent Education session on how SSIS uses standards and assessments to support your child’s learning.
This session will be very helpful as you prepare to attend the upcoming parent-teacher-student conferences. We encourage you to attend.
In the session you will learn:
- About the different types of assessments we use at SSIS
- How teachers use the results of the different kinds of assessments
- What the difference is between a formative and a summative assessment
- What standards are and how they are used in teaching and learning
- How to understand feedback on assessment from teachers
