HS: (Grade 9-12) Welcome Back & AP/IBDP Information (Grade 10)

71
Welcome Back HS Parents,
We hope you and your families had a restful and enjoyable break with your families.  A few changes have begun since our return to school on January 9.  All students have a chance to start anew in all of their classes.  This is a great opportunity for students to reflect on those things they did well in semester one and make changes in those areas where they fell short for a stronger semester two.  Additionally, all three divisions are making a concerted effort to be more consistent with our dress code.  HS students have already shown great improvement in this regard during the first week of school.  Lastly, we have introduced extended hours for our Advanced Placement and Higher Level IB courses.
As a division we are looking forward to a great 2018.
Warmest regards,
Jacob Hendrickson
SSIS High School Principal
For Grade 10 Parents Below:
We have our AP/IBDP Night (Jan 16) and AP/IBDP Principal’s Coffee (Jan 18) this week for GRADE 10 Students and Parents.  We will be sharing information about the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at both of these times.  While both events deliver the same content to best serve the schedules of our parents, there are some subtle differences you will see below.
AP/IBDP Night on Tuesday, January 16 from 6:00-7:00pm in the auditorium will share information about the programs and answer questions.  It also, includes a panel of current students in each program to share their experiences.  If you are able to attend this evening event it would be a great idea to bring your 10th grade son/daughter.
AP/IBDP Principal’s Coffee takes place on Thursday, January 18 from 8:15-9:15am in the MPR on the 4th floor of the HS building.  The same content will be delivered at this meeting, but there will not be a student panel, as our students will all be attending their regularly scheduled classes.
These events are critical and extremely important for all grade 10 parents and students to attend.  We hope to see you this week.
FYI, if you came to the UniTalk Meeting on August 24 (Intro to AP/IB) similar information will be shared at this session.  The main difference will be the proximity to choosing classes for the 2018-19 school year and the inclusion of the student panel at the evening event.
Best regards,
