Head of School Update, January 28: Developments in Northern Vietnam & SSIS Preparedness

124

Dear SSIS Parents,

As you may have seen in the news today, there have been more than 80 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in northern Vietnam. At this time, schools in Quang Ninh are closed until the end of the week. Due to the rapid spread and the uncertainty, we are preparing ourselves for any eventuality.

Although there is no indication that we will be required to transition to Virtual School, we should remember from last year that a directive to close the school can come at a moment’s notice.

The preparations that each division made at the beginning of the school year will ensure that our students and faculty have an efficient transition to Virtual School, requiring only one school day of preparation if a changeover becomes necessary.

Also, please be advised that beginning tomorrow, Friday, January 29, masks are mandatory at all times on campus, both in and outside of classrooms, including PE classes and recess. The mandatory mask usage applies to everyone on campus: faculty, staff, and students (except for students in EC and KG). Masks may only be removed to eat and drink. Handwashing, disinfection, and temperature taking protocols will remain the same.

School leadership will remain in contact with International SOS and the Vietnamese Government, and we commit to informing you of any updates as they become available to us. In the meantime, please remember that our community’s health and safety are of the highest priority, and take good care of yourselves and your families.

Please do not hesitate to share questions or concerns at any time.

All good wishes,

Dr. Catriona Moran
Head of School
