Food prices in the Cafeteria & Kiosk

    213

    Dear SSIS Parents,

As some of you have already noticed, a price increase for the set meals in the cafeteria was approved by the School effective at the start of this year. We should have been more timely in our communications with you about this and I apologize for the delay.

The Caterers is an independent food service provider that has worked with SSIS since August 2011 to provide meals in our cafeteria and high school kiosk area. They also provide catering at a number of school event for students, parents, and teachers.

There has not been a price increase at SSIS since August 2011, five years ago, when The Caterers first became our food service provider. This past Spring, the Caterers submitted a request for a price increase to cover rising costs associated with their service.

The new prices which we approved represent increases of between 5.5% (at the daily sandwich bar) and 12.5% (the noodle station). I have linked a letter here below from The Caterers which was submitted to us just as the school year ended last June which explains each of the increases.

We have a very good working relationship with the Caterers. They have been responsive to the School’s efforts to improve the food service over the last five years from the bento box lunches for our youngest students to the redesign of the high school kiosk this year. While we still seem room for further improvement, we appreciate the work they are doing at SSIS.

We have a Food Committee at the school which is currently chaired by Dr. Tim Chute, Assistant Principal in the High School. If you have particular questions or concerns, or if you would like to help in the work of this committee, please send him your thoughts.

    Sincerely yours,

Mark Iver Sylte, Head of School
