HS First Week of School

34

The start of the year is almost upon us.  The high school faculty has been extremely busy preparing for the arrival of our students.  Personally, I have now been in my new role for about three weeks and just want to see our students walking the halls of the high school.  We are all eagerly anticipating their arrival.

A couple of reminders for the first week of school:

New School Year Orientation: This event is on August 11 for all returning and new students and parents.  For all returning students to SSIS there is a mandatory student orientation day starting at 10:30 in the high school gym and ending at 1:00pm.  We have a number of important activities designed to help students get off to a positive start.

For new students to SSIS  that did not attend the school during the 2014-15 school year, the orientation starts in the HS MPR (4th floor of the HS building) starting at 9:30am and ending at 1:00pm.  New parents are welcome to attend this morning session.

During the August 11th orientation, the school will be open to students/parents to accomplish a number of important beginning of year tasks that include: loading cafeteria accounts with money, picking up schedules, taking ID pictures (students and parents) to use to enter our new security turnstiles, paying for fees/tuition, signing up for buses, purchasing uniforms/supplies, updating passport/visa copies, and updating PowerSchool information.

On August 12, students will have an opportunity to attend all of their eight classes.  While our A block class starts at 8:00 am and our advisory ends the day at 3:00 pm, classes are 40 minutes in length.  Our regular rotating block bell schedule starts on August 13th.

Don’t forget to read our Head of School’s message about ID’s for students AND parents.  We look forward to seeing you at the New School Year Orientation.

Best regards,

Jacob Hendrickson
